About This Project

Stockton Waterfront can be summed up in one word – visionary. Formerly a shopping centre it was unloved and empty but had the potential to become an amazing place enabling visitors to access the waterfront directly from the town centre.

An enormous amount of work was involved in this, not least because of the road running parallel to the waterfront, but all obstacles were overcome and this beautifully designed area opened to the public in July 2026. It has extensive landscaping, planting, play and social areas and will be a hugely popular destination in Stockton.

When you’re there please take a moment to appreciate the 20m curved bench, courtesy of Hornbeck! This striking piece of furniture (which could seat over 30 people) along with other benches and picnic sets form an essential part of the social space where people love to meet and spend time. The good people at Esh Contracting were great to work with and have done a fantastic job on which will undoubtedly become an iconic study of regeneration.
