London Borough of Waltham Forest Suntrap Forest Education centre

On the edge of Epping Forest down a quiet lane is Suntrap Forest Centre, a place with an extraordinary history. Built in 1894 on the site of a former lunatic asylum it was originally a convalescent home for children. During WWII it became a maternity hospital, then flats during the 50’s, but in 1966 the Borough was offered Suntrap as a gift to enable local schools to organise field trips.

In 2019 an ambitious redevelopment programme was commenced with refurbishment to the building along with extensive landscaping alterations, installation of camping pods and other facilities. Landmark were very pleased to be involved with this exciting project and supplied entrance signage, fingerposts, interpretation lecterns and monoliths.

A particular feature of this signage is the stunning graphics on the lecterns which were produced by a local artist. These looked especially good when produced in HardRok™ and mounted in the Lymington lecters.

This was a busy building site at the time, as reflected in the photographs and we look forward to seeing the environment mature and mellow over the years at this dynamic location.
