Signage & wayfinding for Pollok Park, Glasgow

About This Project

Pollok Country Park is a peaceful 361 acre haven just 3 miles from the centre of Glasgow. It attracts around 2 million visitors a year and in fact in 2008 it was voted best park in Europe. The park and its art collection in The Burrell were gifted to the City of Glasgow and along with the 50 or so Highland Cattle that live here its certainly a worthwhile destination.

Landmark were approached by the Council to work with them on their new signage project. No ordinary signage though, it was to be made from Accoya which is a highly specialised treated softwood offering exceptional durability to rot. In fact it is guaranteed for 25 years below ground, no other timber currently offers this level of stability.

In addition the signage was to be relocatable as the park developed so stainless steel shoes were fabricated. Our own HardRok panels completed these very special structures and they look stunning once installed! The high quality CNC engraving further enhances the designs and overall this is a ‘Landmark’ project (no pun intended).

Working with Accoya can be technically challenging and we are pleased to say this is the largest signage project completed globally to date. For us this project stands out due to its commitment to a sustainable solution, achieved by careful selection of materials and finishes and is a testament to the long range vision of Glasgow City Council.
