Wayfinding for Windsor, Berkshire – installation

About This Project

Windsor is…well everyone knows what Windsor is. The number of visitors here is just staggering, the Castle welcomes nearly 1.5 million per year but the Great Park has over 3 times as many at an unbelievable 5.4 million! And of course many more come just to enjoy the royal connections, attractive shopping and eating areas, Eton College and the River Thames.

Obviously some special wayfinding is needed in the remarkable place which is where the Barcelona monolith comes in. Available in unlimited variations of height, depth, width, colour, finish, graphics and mounting it was the obvious choice for such a high profile location. An additional factor was the need to remove the monoliths temporarily for special events and leave a flush surface behind. We used a special foundation unit which means the monoliths can easily and quickly be unlocked and removed and a blanking plate applied to allow pedestrians, vehicles (and no doubt horses) to move freely through the area.

The panels are made from toughened glass and the graphics are easily updateable, as essential feature given the flexible nature of our town centres.
