About This Project

This is a rather magical place, including ancient woodland, winding streams and lots of little bridges, and is in fact the remnant of a landscaped 18th-century pleasure gardens. And another little-known fact: it’s home to no less than 558 species of fungi, which is pretty impressive for a 36-hectare size.

Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust does an excellent job managing Gobions Wood and has recently installed a recycled plastic lectern near the Canal Pond. This is a great choice for a frequently damp area as the material is completely rot resistant and will not deteriorate with time. The beautiful watercolour illustrations show the rich wildlife in this area, from the great spotted woodpecker to the black clock beetle.
