New project: Outdoor furniture for Alton Gateway

About the Project

Alton Gateway is more than a new public square, it’s a focal point in a broader regeneration scheme. Alongside new housing and infrastructure, the space preserves a unique piece of local history: a WWII-era anti-tank weapon originally issued to the Home Guard. This feature is now accessible via a series of thoughtfully laid paths that wind through wildflower and grass-planted areas.

The landscape was carefully designed to blend functionality with heritage. It’s a place that encourages pause and appreciation, whether for its natural beauty or its historical context.

Furnishing the Space

Our brief was to supply outdoor furniture for public spaces that would offer both comfort and durability, while also supporting the site’s aesthetic goals. The furniture needed to enhance the usability of the space without competing visually with the natural and historical elements.

We supplied a mix of Mettro benches and bins, chosen for their clean lines, refined finishes, and ability to withstand public use. This ensured consistency throughout the site while meeting the practical requirements of a busy public environment.

Quality materials and finish were key. The combination of Iroko hardwood slats with powder-coated anthracite grey steel frames provided a smart, modern look with proven performance in all weather conditions.
