Wayfinding for Maryport, Cumbria

Maryport is an attractive and little-known town on the Cumbrian coast north of Workington. It has a rich history going back to Roman times and was a supply base for the defences at the western end of Hadrian’s Wall. During Victorian times the town developed with the shipyards and railway along with the coal mining industry.

The loss of industry from the 1920’s affected Maryport significantly and the shipyards and mines were closed by the 1960’s, however prospects are improving with regeneration projects taking place and, of course, a new wayfinding scheme!

Landmark were privileged to work alongside the talented staff at Jacobs to help develop and specify monoliths and fingerposts and these were supplied to Thomas Armstrong Group for installation around the town.

Consultation by Jacobs with the local population helped create a very attractive wayfinding scheme which complements the rich heritage of this attractive town and will undoubtedly help along its regeneration programme to become a desirable place to live, work and relax.

The well-known Barcelona monolith and Venice fingerposts were used and with the myriad of options available they look completely unique and very well suited to this coastal location.
