Interpretation for Saffron Walden battle ditches, Essex

About This Project

What may have appeared as a rather nondescript ditch in the centre of Saffron Walden is now fully explained as a ‘Norman and medieval boundary marker’.

Two lecterns from Landmark stand at either end of the ditches, interpreting the history of this Scheduled Monument. It is suggested that construction could date back to around 1140, and although much of it has been filled in, a stretch of it still exists right up to this day, nearly 900 years later.

Lathwell & Associates, a design agency based in Devon, did an excellent job on the interpretation, and we were pleased to have supplied two London lecterns from our Citi range to inform future visitors about the intriguing history of this area.
