Public park furniture for Beckenham Place Park

Written by Bianca - 30 Apr 2026

Beckenham Place Park, one of South London’s largest green spaces shared by the boroughs of Lewisham and Bromley, has long been a cherished retreat for the community. Spanning 98 hectares, it’s a landscape of open meadows, woodland trails, and a beautiful lake. Following a major transformation project, this urban oasis now boasts even more ways for visitors to connect with nature and one another.

As part of these improvements, we are delighted to enhance the space with a carefully designed range of public park furniture, blending durability, comfort, and design to enrich the visitor experience.

Revitalising a beloved community park

The London Borough of Lewisham’s vision for Beckenham Place Park centred on wellbeing, play, and recreation. Working alongside T. Loughman and the wider project team, we helped bring that vision to life. From the start, our shared goal was to create a space that felt inclusive, welcoming, and made for everyday use by everyone. Furniture might seem like a small detail, but it plays a powerful role in shaping how people experience public spaces, offering rest, comfort, and moments of connection throughout the park.

Designing for everyday enjoyment

We supplied a variety of furniture to complement the park’s new landscaping, playground, and pathways. This included benches, picnic tables, cycle stands, and a striking entrance monolith, each piece chosen to harmonise with the park’s natural character.

Every design balances strength and beauty, ensuring long-lasting performance while maintaining a refined aesthetic. Whether enjoying a quiet moment on a bench or gathering for lunch at a picnic table, visitors now experience a park that feels both functional and inviting.

A closer look at the furniture range

Each product was selected to meet the park’s practical needs while adding visual coherence to its surroundings:

  • Chepstow bench – Crafted in iroko and oak, this contemporary take on the traditional park bench features organic curves and solid timber construction, offering both elegance and comfort for visitors.
  • Lincoln straight benches – A timeless choice for flexible seating arrangements, these benches fit seamlessly into social areas and can be adapted to curved versions for focal spaces.
  • Holyhead bench/table set – Ideal for picnics and gatherings, this timber set provides versatile configurations and materials suited to every outdoor setting, a perfect example of well-designed picnic tables for public parks.
  • Copenhagen cycle stand– Simple, durable, and cyclist-friendly, this classic design (often called the Sheffield stand) ensures secure bicycle parking while complementing other street elements in style.

Together, these elements create a cohesive network of spaces for rest, conversation, and activity across Beckenham Place Park.

Enhancing connection and wellbeing

Thoughtful furniture placement encourages visitors to pause, connect, and enjoy the scenery. From parents watching children at play to cyclists taking a break, these moments of rest contribute to the park’s sense of community and belonging. Quality public benches and picnic sets aren’t just about comfort; they support physical and mental well-being by inviting people to spend more time outdoors, surrounded by nature and one another.

The result: A more inviting Beckenham Place Park

Since its revitalisation, Beckenham Place Park has become an even more vibrant destination. The addition of our furniture has improved visitor flow and visual cohesion across the site. Early impressions suggest a renewed sense of pride and connection among the local community, proof that small, well-considered details can make a lasting impact on how people use and enjoy their public spaces.

Conclusion

At Hornbeck, we believe that every public space deserves to be both functional and inspiring. The Beckenham Place Park project is a proud example of how high-quality public park furniture can elevate outdoor environments, encouraging play, relaxation, and connection. By combining craftsmanship, design integrity, and purpose, we help communities create places where everyone feels welcome and where every visit leaves a lasting impression.
